(CNN) — Gunshots were fired during a school board meeting in Panama
City, Florida, officials said Tuesday.

“There has been an incident, and police are on the scene,” said Traci
Fidler, assistant to the deputy superintendent of Bay District
Schools. “No school board members were injured.”

A journalist for CNN affiliate WJHG was at the meeting and reported
that a pistol-carrying man had taken hostages Tuesday afternoon in the
Nelson Building.  According to WJHG, the man released some people and
addressed the board before using a can of red spray paint to paint a
large “V” with a circle around it on the wall.  The gunman released
hostages and questioned the board, WJHG reported. Shots were fired,
and SWAT teams burst in, the station said.
